I'm still working on my potholders.
I used an old friend from high school to help me baste them.
Aqua Net is cheap and the fumes are not as toxic as basting spray. I basted them in the bathroom so it wouldn't get on the carpet. I ONLY use it on small projects. It's not the stickiest stuff.
I used glue to pin them.
This is not the glue you probably want to use on your good quilts. I couldn't find the school glue at the store so I picked up this one that was right next to the empty space. I really pricked my fingers the first time and I didn't want to wait. This isn't a serious project & they will eventually get thrown away someday. This glue made a bit of a solvent-like odor when I ironed them together. It could have been the hairspray also but it didn't quite smell like it.
I turned them right side out.
They looked so pretty I couldn't just outline quilt them with the grey thread I was planning on. I picked out some colors
and started with the purple one & got that done. Then I quilted the blue one but I don't like what I did in the light square.
I put it down & did other things this weekend. Yesterday I came across The Inbox Jaunt blog and her free motion quilting designs. I was instantly inspired and decided to do some spirals all over or in rows, I haven't decided. But I also liked the look of her umbrellas and the fabric looks a bit like rain but I think I'm going to use some sort of spiral in the end. It's been a while since I've done free motion work but I'm inspired so I'm going to try again. Wish me luck!

ReplyDeleteLove colour selections... you should show off your lovely work with larger pics on your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm nervous about putting in bigger pictures. I've been on the internet since people hated a lot of big pictures because they took too long to download! Thanks for the advice! I'll try to do that next time.
DeleteI really love the designs and the fabric choices. So fun and colourful. They are going to look really wonderful when finished.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm looking forward to finishing them.
